About the course

The Clinical Insight Bundle brings together a curated set of past Music for Kiddos Symposium conference presentations designed to offer music therapists practical tools, fresh perspectives, and gentle support as they navigate the many layers of clinical work. Across these four sessions, you’ll explore a meaningful blend of clinical skills, therapeutic clarity, and personal reflection.

This bundle is ideal for therapists who want to feel more confident and supported—both in the day-to-day skills they use with clients and in their deeper understanding of themselves as helping professionals. These presentations were well-loved for a reason: they’re practical, down-to-earth, and genuinely useful for real-life clinical practice.

This course also fulfills the CBMT Ethics requirement, offering thoughtful exploration of themes such as self-awareness, client dignity, reflective practice, compassion, and the ethical foundations of therapeutic decision-making. Through the combined lenses of professional identity, goal co-creation, compassion, and personal reflection, therapists are invited to examine the values and ethical considerations that shape ethically grounded and person-centered music therapy.

What you’ll learn

Meet your instructors

Lorrie Kubicek, MT-BC is a board-certified music therapist and program manager for Expressive Therapies at Massachusetts General–Brigham Hospital. With more than 20 years of medical music therapy experience and seven additional years at Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, Lorrie artfully blends clinical expertise, child development knowledge, and a sense of play into her therapeutic approach.

Kimberly Khare, MA, MT-BC is a board-certified and Nordoff-Robbins music therapist with over 25 years of experience supporting children, families, teens, and young adults in community-based settings. She has taught at Berklee College of Music for two decades, helping emerging music therapists deepen their clinical musicianship and creative confidence.

Ami Kunimura, PhD, MT-BC is the founder of The Self-Care Institute and has been a board-certified music therapist since 2006. She provides therapeutic support for professionals experiencing burnout and has presented internationally on self-care and professional resilience. Ami specializes in mental health, trauma, and addictions, and has taught at UCLA and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. She holds a PhD in Mind-Body Medicine, an MA in Music Therapy, and a BA in Psychology.

Kate Shannon, LCPC, LCAT, MT-BC works extensively with children, teens, and families across school, clinic, and private practice settings. Known for her warmth, humor, and clinical clarity, Kate makes complex concepts feel accessible and usable. She has advanced training in creative arts therapies, expressive therapies, play therapy, EMDR, and trauma-informed practice.

Kerry Devlin, PhD, LPMT, MT-BC (she/her) is a senior music therapist at the Johns Hopkins Center for Music & Medicine. As a disabled clinician, she brings a unique dual perspective as both provider and patient, grounding her work in disability justice and participant-led music experiences. Kerry also shares clinical insights and advocacy work with students and colleagues through her Instagram platform, @liberatedlearning.

Hakeem Leonard (he/him) has been a board-certified music therapist for nearly 20 years. His professional experience spans work with diverse client communities, growing a private practice, and more than a decade as a music therapy educator and scholar. Human potentials across the lifespan (as opposed to deficit based developmental perspectives) have remained a vital area of exploration and insight, which has shaped his framing of goals. Guided by resource-oriented and equity-centered approaches, he is deeply committed to exploring how these lenses can shape meaning and transformative potential of music therapy practice.
